Medical Assistant
Director: Medical Office Administrator
FT/PT Status: Full-time
Non-Exempt
Location: Spectrum Medical Care Center– Phoenix, AZ
JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant works to assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care during clinic hours. The position works with Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurses, and Medical Assistants to provide comprehensive care in a stigma-free, nonjudgmental manner. This role is responsible for performing both clinical (back office) and administrative (front office) duties.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act and serve as a liaison between the patient and the providers.
- Verify patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history in the EMR system: confirming purpose of visit.
- Prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests: taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature and documenting findings.
- Administer injections and vaccines to patients.
- Assist providers with pap smear examinations.
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKG), Quanta Flo testing (test for peripheral vascular disease), Spirometry testing (test to check lung capacity).
- Perform ear lavages, urinalysis, pregnancy tests, and glucose finger sticks.
- Perform testing for sexually transmitted infections (Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Hepatitis C and HIV rapid test).
- Demonstrate teamwork by supporting and providing coverage as needed.
- Complete prior authorizations (Pharmacy and Medical). Facilitate referrals when ordered by provider.
- Interact with pharmacies regarding patient concerns, medication issues, and refills.
- Navigate in the EMR system by addressing telephone encounters, documents, and referrals following the protocols and time frames set forth.
- Answer messages and tasks in a timely manner; address prescriptions when ordered by providers.
- Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, keeping patient information confidential.
- Schedule follow up appointments and assist with patient inquiries before and after an appointment.
- Serve and protect the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Always maintain professionalism.
- All other duties as assigned by the Medical Office Administrator.
ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH SPECTRUM MEDICAL CARE CENTER PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.

Education Minimum
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Completion of a Medical Assistant Program
Work Experience
Primary Care Experience Preferred

- While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. Occasionally the employee must stoop, bend, and lift or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Pay: $16.00 - $24.00 per hour
